June Update 2009

Greetings Friends and Family!

Let’s start with some very exciting news…..Morgan Ava Matheny was born on Thursday morning, June 4! She weighed in at 7 lbs. 3 oz with a head full of dark hair and full of spunk. Becca is doing great, Troy is on cloud 9 and we are super blessed to be grandparents again. Due to an earlier than expected arrival we will have an extra week with Morgan before returning to Kenya.

This is one more blessing we have enjoyed among so many that we have been experiencing. Things have been moving at a faster pace over the last few months. It seems that God has shifted gears this year. It started with last year’s mission’s banquet and has not stopped. Let me summarize:

1. Last year’s banquet was our largest and greatest response to date, even in an economic climate that was not rosy by any means.

2. We had to send a 40 ft. container in January and still did not get everything in it. It arrived in Kenya before the March conference.

3. In March we had the largest pastor’s conference ever with over 1250 leaders. We gave away thousands of Bibles, concordances, books, tapes and notes.

4. Just before leaving Kenya, we set into motion two ministries that have been on our hearts and just waiting for God to put all the pieces in place:

a. Nations Training Institute: This is a 4 year mobile Bible School for pastors. We will be taking the school to groups of leaders all over Kenya. This school has been put together by Pastor Ron Hogue and we are launching it in Kenya in order to give the leaders systematic Bible training. One reason we are able to shift gears here, is the addition of David Waldrop to our team at CMM. David, along with his wife Janene and daughter Julianne, moved to Kenya last August and God has put us together. He is a teacher, retired military and this challenge is like it is made for him. David, along with Pastor Chola are about to start several schools. He will oversee, administrate and personally launch each school, along with the follow up and administration. Another part of our vision realized!

b. Pastor’s Resource Center in Nairobi: Opening date: July 1.

The Lord has provided a place in a perfect location for a great price. We have the computers, the equipment and now the personnel to open our first resource center for pastors. The center is being remodeled and will be ready to open at the end of June. This area of the city is very poor with hundreds of pastors within the immediate area. This will open up a whole new world for so many pastors to have access to such study resources. When this is operational, we will have broken some new ground and another part of the vision will have become a reality.

5. New kitchen and dining hall:

One month ago we started construction on a 6,000 sq. ft. kitchen and dining hall. We had enough money to get started and after praying about it, felt that God said, “Start building and the funds will come”. So by faith we took what we had and started. We divided the project into 4 phases and we had most of the money for Phase 1. Since that time almost all the money for Phase 2 has come in as well as the rest of Phase 1. We will be challenging the pastors at the June conference to give a good portion of the money needed for Phase 3. Concerning Phase 4, no worries…just see what God will do.

The good news is that the contractor has assured me that by the June conference the foundation/floor will be done as well as the steel structure and roof will be up. That means that we can start using it immediately. It will basically look like the pavilion does now and we can use it to for dining. That will be so wonderful. PTL! After Phase 4 is done then we can move the kitchen there and we will be able to provide meals for the pastors in a much better environment, as well as have more room for workshops, etc.

6. Wellspring Warehouse full of resources:

After arriving back in Texas, we were given approximately 4,000 sq. yards of carpet tiles (22 pallets). This is commercial grade and perfect for what we need at the conference center. This will enable us to carpet all the meeting rooms and bed rooms at the center. The pastors will feel like they are in a 5 star hotel. This carpet is on pallets, weighed and ready for the container.

Also, just before we returned, 200 computers were delivered to the warehouse. We are checking them out now and getting them ready to ship.

Then we were blessed by a donation of over 3,000 books that were in a library of a Bible school. These are awesome study and reference books. We have just finished boxing them up and they will be in the warehouse on Monday.

We have enough to send a 20 ft. container now. We are waiting to see how and when the funds will come ($5,000.00). When they do, we will ship. PTL! If you would like to be a part of this, just mark your gift…’Send It’.

While all this has been developing, the “normal” things we do have been in full force; regional meetings that have been incredible (last month, Arusha, Tanzania), giving computers to a school that trains pastors in a rural area of Kenya (their first computers); delivering school supplies to 3 very needy schools and witnessing such joy from students and teachers that feel God opened up heaven upon them; giving away musical instruments, sound equipment, etc. Just the normal things while so many other great things are getting underway. Somebody say AMEN!

Again, all this is possible because you have provided so many resources, funding, encouragement and support for us. May the Lord continue to fill your barns with plenty!

Ronnie and Debbie Matheny
